The Acer ConceptD 7 range of laptops revolutionize portable computing, adding a whole new touch to digital creation.
Before we dive in, here’s a quick visual list of the pros and cons of splurging on the new Acer ConceptD 7 laptop:
Good
- Lightweight but durable
- Superior performance
- Anti-glare screen with almost edges
The Not So Good
- PRICE!
Acer has taken an original approach when designing its ConceptD 7 series laptop. It has a striking appearance, but in terms of functionality it looks more like your traditional laptop.
Acer ConceptD: Origins
According to Acer’s marketing study, about 50% of gaming PC users use their devices not only to play video games, but also to work with creative software. And 15% never install games. Acer saw a gap to fill: the need for portable hardware that meets the needs of digital creators.
Thus the concept was born. Many people wonder what the “D” in its name means, because the word “Concept” speaks for itself. According to Acer, it is supposed to represent design, development, discovery, but basically everything avant-garde that resonates with you.
Who is it for?
Acer ConceptD 7 was created for web design and video editing. The brand is ready to break down the barriers between creators and technology. ConceptD devices are tested and certified by independent software vendors (ISVs).
As we noted above, this laptop model is quite expensive, and we do not recommend that many aspiring designers who are just starting out can afford it. But we may have good news: Acer has released another excellent laptop, which is significantly affordable, but still has all the essential components to unleash your creativity. We highly recommend that you check out our full review of last week’s Acer Swift 3x laptop.
So, what is an Acer ConceptD 7?
In a word, it is a mobile workstation. Just not the average kind. The template is full of creative tools and programs designed specifically for designers. ConceptD 7 offers a Pantone-validated 4K display panel with a narrow bezel, enhanced with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER video card. A dream come true for a graphic designer.
Internal Material
The recent Acer ConceptD 7 model comes with a 10th generation Intel Core i7-10875h processor with a base speed of 2.3 GHz, which can be overclocked to 5.1 GHz. The processor is supported by 32 GB of DDR4 SDRAM RAM, two built-in slots. It is preconfigured with two PCIe solid-state drives of 1 TB each. As we mentioned above, Acer has equipped its flagship device with discrete NVIDIA GeForce graphics: RTX 2080 for now, but we hope to upgrade the RTX 3000 series in the near future.
The model has a decent (and fairly standard) selection of ports: you get four USB ports (two on each side), an RJ-45 port, an HDMI and mini display for video output, separate microphone and headphone jacks, and voila, a Thunderbolt 3 port! We have found that many powerful gaming and work laptops actually lack this rather essential feature.
The Stunning Acer ConceptD 7 display
The Acer ConceptD 7 display deserves a separate feature. This is a 15.6-inch 4K panel, with a resolution of 3840×2160, and it seems to combine the impossible: a matte finish (ComfyView) and additional bright colors. IPS technology, the brightness of 400 nits and, of course, the 100% Adobe RGB color gamut are responsible for this excellent performance. the 81% screen-to-body ratio and the narrow edges make it an excellent digital canvas, although the background can certainly be thinner.
Is the battery really that good?
As for the battery life, acer claims that it will last all day, but this seems to be a somewhat unrealistic promise, given the specifications. Some users reported that they were able to get a little less than 6 hours of continuous movies out of it. We are still waiting for our first days of concept to test it properly. All we know for now is that the laptop has an 84WHr li-ion battery and a 230W charger to accompany it.
ConceptD 7: available models and prices
Currently, Acer has only one ConceptD 7 laptop configuration on its website and it is on sale (!!!) + tax. Ow.
The model comes in a beautiful white ceramic chassis, which is extra durable and stain resistant. Acer is also offering a three-month free trial of Adobe Creative Cloud with all of its ConceptD laptops and desktops.
Green Packaging
To reduce the environmental impact of laptop packaging, ConceptD packaging is virtually plastic-free and is 100% fully recyclable. Acer uses recycled cardboard in the production of boxes and no longer puts chargers and manuals in plastic bags. The carrying matter, which the brand encloses with its laptops, are now made of recycled polyester. We are pleased to learn that Acer is taking steps to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Perhaps we consumers should take it as an example and strive not to cultivate wasteful habits in our daily lives.
Resale value
Since the reviewed ConceptD 7 model is relatively new, it would be difficult for us to estimate the resale value of a used product at this stage. But if you already own a laptop and are wondering if it can help you offset the cost of your new upgrade, we have your back. You can sell your used Acer laptop online without leaving home! Or another brand of laptop for that matter. Just check your Acer IRL buyout offer online. We offer a fast and secure turnaround time (virtually contactless), and the variety of direct electronic payment methods is an added bonus. But if you are old-fashioned, we also send checks by mail!
Last Thoughts
Acer has taken the time to carefully develop its ConceptD range. They did their research and thought a lot about creative mobile computing. And the ConceptD 7 workstation is a good example of this. The laptop is perfect for web and graphic designers, and in some matter can even help save a little money on additional tools and accessories, which are necessary for this line of work. But for someone who is an amateur designer or a student, this may be an exaggeration. Acer ConceptD 7 is undoubtedly a great choice for so many creatives in many different fields, if only everyone could afford to spend so much on a laptop, no matter how great it is.
